Classes 2015-2016 Archives -
The children in Year 2 have been given a fantastic opportunity to take part in ‘Forest School Activities’ at Lower Stock Farm, Wrington, during the coming weeks, supported by Mrs Few our Learning Mentor.
The children will experience outdoor art and craft, bug hunting and bug hotel making, den building and using tools to saw, drill and make knots – we feel these exciting activities will enable the children to develop their social, outdoor and team work skills. Keep checking back here as this page will be updated regularly with pictures and information of all the exciting things the children (and adults) experience over the coming weeks.
Monday 1st February 2016
Another wonderful Forest School this week – as we approached the forest today we saw 4 deer in the distance, the children were very excited!
We were extremely lucky once again with the weather and all managed eat our lunch outside sat on the log. Once we had finished our lunch it was time start making our identity badges out of wood – the children all learnt how to safely use the saw and drill – Mrs Few and Mrs English were so impressed with the teamwork shown and each child worked so well together, making sure everyone had a turn. Today we also began to add to the ‘bug hotel’ using utensils to ensure the bugs have a safe place to live!
Monday 25th January 2016
Today was our first visit back to Forest School in 2016 – we had a wonderful time and the children enjoyed the team work games, blindfolded forest walking and using their sense of smell and touch. We also found an enormous toad!
Monday 7th December 2015
This week was sadly our last Forest School before Christmas, the children had a wonderful time toasting marshmallows and frying pancakes over an open, crackly fire (the fire also helped to warm us all up a bit!).
The children all had a go at using fire flints and were extremely sensible.
It was then down to business, and everyone (including Mrs Few, Mrs English and our special guest this week Miss Hockey) enjoyed toasting marshmallows on a stick – the children were very careful and remembered the important fire safety rules.
Mrs Few and Mrs English look forward to sharing more Forest School adventures with the next group in the new year and wish you a Happy Christmas!
We have had another fantastic week at Forest School, although it was a very chilly day, the children (and adults!) wrapped up warm in their gloves, scarfs and coats and yet again managed to eat their lunch outside – then it was down to business in creating some wooden reindeers!
The children remembered the safety rules and used drills, saws, peelers and cutters to create them – watching the children work together as a team and help each other was wonderful, Mrs Few and Mrs English both had a go too and all the finished reindeers are now lined up in our hall @Hewish!
We were also lucky enough the see the baby field voles again, what a super afternoon we had!
Monday 16th November 2015
This week at Forest School the children learnt about mini beasts and bugs including caterpillars, earthworms, spiders and slugs!
Before going on a bug hunt they all got into pairs to demonstrate different types of bugs and were very creative!
Everyone (especially Mrs Few) was very excited about finding a nest of baby field voles, they were very tiny and we saw at least 12!
Monday 9th November 2015
This week, the children all enjoyed having a go at safely using tools to cut wood and drill a hole – Mrs Few was very impressed with how sensible they all were. Everyone made a necklace ‘tag’ and designed their own logo for it. The weather really is being very kind to us and we all were able to eat our lunch outside again – fantastic!
Monday 2nd November 2015
Our 2nd group had a wonderful first week at Forest School this afternoon – they enjoyed eating their lunch outside (we have been so lucky with the weather) and loved the ‘smell-o-vision’ pots, trying to detangle themselves from a human knot and had a go at blindfolded forest walking – an action packed afternoon!
Monday 12th October 2015
Today, the children learnt how to safely light a fire and all had a go at using Fire Flints. Afterwards, they all had a go at mixing up a batter ready to cook pancakes in a frying pan on the fire – Elijah said they were ‘delicious’ !
Whilst the fire was still hot, each child had a go at safely toasting a marshmallow and making S’mores – Rowan said they were ‘so yummy’. Mrs Few and Mrs English were very impressed with the children and they were all really careful around the fire pit, remembering the safety rules . Well done year 2!
Monday 5th October 2015: This week at Forest School, the children all learnt how to use a saw and a drill safely, they cut their own ‘doughnuts’ of wood, drilled a hole and made them into personalised necklaces/pendants – even Mrs Few and Mrs English had a go!
The children also used sticks from an Elder tree and peeled each one to go into a ‘bug hotel’.
